The proposed Rameswar–Paradip coastal highway moved forward after the National Highways Authority of India received strong bidder interest for different packages of the project. The approximately 160-kilometre access-controlled corridor is planned to improve road connectivity along Odisha’s coast, including the important Paradip region.
According to the published report, NHAI received 17 bids for packages of the coastal highway. The Konark–Paradip section attracted seven bids, reflecting significant interest from infrastructure companies in developing the corridor. The project is being progressed through separate packages as part of the tendering process.
For Jagatsinghpur district, improved connectivity to Paradip Port and surrounding industrial areas could be particularly important. A stronger road corridor can support passenger movement as well as transportation of goods between the port, industrial centres and other parts of Odisha.
The project could therefore become an important component of long-term infrastructure development around Paradip. As the bidding and project-development process progresses, the coastal highway is expected to remain significant for Jagatsinghpur because of the district’s major maritime, industrial and logistics activities.
