The vandalism of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik’s statue at Siali Beach triggered political reactions and concern among residents of Jagatsinghpur district. The bust was reportedly removed from its pedestal, prompting local representatives and residents to demand an investigation.

Following the discovery, Padampur sarpanch Prativarani Patra lodged a complaint with Ersama police. Police subsequently began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and searching for those responsible for damaging and removing the statue.

During the investigation, the damaged bust was reportedly recovered around 250 metres away from the pedestal. The incident attracted particular attention because Siali is an important coastal destination in the district and the monument honoured one of Odisha’s best-known former chief ministers.

Local political leaders condemned the act and called for strict action. The controversy subsequently became an issue of political significance in Jagatsinghpur, with demands for accountability as well as protection and proper maintenance of public monuments.
